Protect your work
Tell us what you created and where you need protection. Our team replies within one business day with the steps and fees.
Ownership of what you create, on the official record.
Copyright is the exclusive right to copy, publish, adapt, perform and sell an original creative work. It covers the way an idea is expressed, such as the text of a book, the code of an app, the artwork on a label or the recording of a song, not the idea itself.
Copyright arises as soon as the work is created, but proving who created it, and when, is hard without a record. Registration puts your ownership on an official register. In India, the extract from the Register of Copyrights is treated by courts as prima facie evidence of the particulars it records, and in the United States registration is needed before suing over a US work.

Start your applicationObjections are routine. A weak reply is what loses the application.
Most objections can be resolved with the right evidence and a clear reply on time. These are the ones we answer most often.
Third-party objection
Someone claims the work, or part of it, is theirs. We file a reasoned reply with evidence of creation and ownership.
Discrepancy letter
The examiner raises gaps or errors in the application. We answer each point and correct the record within the deadline.
Missing no-objection certificate
The author, publisher or artist has not consented. We obtain the right NOC or assignment and file it.
Mismatch in particulars
Names, dates or titles do not match the copies filed. We reconcile the documents and amend the application.
Software and code issues
Source code extracts, versions or deposits are questioned. We prepare compliant extracts and explanations.
Hearing before the Registrar
A hearing is fixed to decide the objection. We prepare the written submissions and argue your case.

Questions about copyright.
Answers to what creators and businesses ask us most.
Found a copy of your work?
Send us a link or a copy. We will review it and suggest the next step within one business day.
Talk to our team01What is copyright?
Copyright is the exclusive right of the creator or owner to copy, publish, adapt, perform and sell an original work. It covers literary, artistic, musical and dramatic works, software, films and sound recordings.
02Is copyright registration mandatory?
No. Copyright exists as soon as the work is created. Registration is still strongly recommended because it gives you official, dated proof of ownership. In India the extract from the Register of Copyrights is prima facie evidence of its particulars, and in the United States registration is needed before suing over a US work.
03What cannot be protected by copyright?
Ideas, methods, facts, names, titles and short slogans are not protected by copyright. Brand names and slogans are protected by trademark, and technical inventions by patent. We advise on the right protection for each element.
04How long does copyright registration take in India?
After filing there is a 30-day period for objections, followed by examination. If there are no objections or discrepancies, registration usually follows within a few months. Objections and hearings add time, and we give you an estimate at the start.
05Can I register software or a mobile app?
Yes. Software is registered as a literary work, with extracts of the source or object code. We prepare the extracts so that confidential code is protected.
06Should I register my logo as copyright or as a trademark?
Ideally both. Copyright protects the logo as a piece of artwork, while a trademark protects it as a sign of your brand. Make sure you own the artwork, for example through an assignment from the designer.
07Can a foreign company or author register copyright in India?
Yes. Works from countries that are members of the Berne Convention or the WTO are protected in India, and foreign owners can register them through an authorised agent.
08What should I do if someone copies my work?
Keep evidence of the copy and of your own creation, and contact us quickly. We assess the case and can send a cease and desist letter, file takedown notices, record your rights with customs or coordinate court action.
09How long does copyright last?
In India it generally lasts for the author's lifetime plus 60 years, and for 60 years from publication for films, sound recordings and some other works. In the US, UK and EU the general term is the author's life plus 70 years.
